As part of CareFusion’s commitment of support and development to our customers in 2010, we are continuing with our one day RCN accredited spirometry training course around the UK. All 2010 courses are aimed at the beginner to intermediate user and covers aspects of the spirometry use according to current guidelines.

The course includes:

  • What is Spirometry?
  • Its clinical applications, strengths and weaknesses
  • Flow Volume loop and Volume/Time trace – What is the meaning of their shape in normal subjects?
  • Can we relate this to chest disease?
  • Introduction to the structure of the respiratory system and how structure governs function
  • Normal Expiratory Flow / Volume and Volume/Time curve
  • Lung Function Terminology- Indices Measured
  • Practical Spirometry:
  • Errors of Technique
  • What is Acceptable?
  • Interpretation of results using case history

We wish to provide the optimal learning framework. The course is structured to encourage learning from a solid understanding of the lungs with spirometry practical using our latest equipment as well as case history examples from Darren Murray’s clinical background. Our goal is to encouraging a clear understanding of spirometry in practice.

Darren has over 14 years of experience with respiratory function testing and has worked for Cardinal Health since 2005 as a Clinical Applications Specialist in Respiratory Technologies where he supports the healthcare profession in system setup, test procedure, data selection and report design.
