‘Cannot install this hardware’ error message. Windows XP Issue

The following message may be displayed when trying to install the Micro Medical USB drivers on window XP


To resolve this issue you will need to follow the step-by-step guide below.

First you need to download and install the USB driver from our website. To do this read the follow document Download and install driver from micro medical website

Installing USB Drivers manually

  • First you need to click on Start > Settings > Control Panel
  • You may need to switch to classic mode here, to do so; this option is located in the top left hand corner of the control panel screen
  • Once in classic mode, click on the System Icon
  • The following screen will then be displayed. Click on the Hardware TAB, then click the Device Manager button.


  • The following screen will then be displayed. Now you need to locate the Micro Medical Spiro USB, as displayed below.


  • First expand the Micro Medical Ltd USB Device, by clicking on the + sign
  • Then double click on SpiroUSB (A yellow circle with a caution mark should be displayed)
  • The following screen should now be displayed


  • Click on Reinstall driver
  • Alternatively, if the troubleshoot option is displayed, you can click on the Driver TAB
  • If you selected the Driver TAB, the following screen will be displayed.


  • Now click on Update driver
  • After clicking on either reinstall driver or update driver, the following screen will be displayed.


  • Select Install from List or specific location, and then click on Next
  • The following screen will then be displayed.


  • Select Don't search, I will choose driver to install, and then click Next
  • The following screen will then be displayed.


  • Now click on Have Disk
  • The following screen will then be displayed.


  • Now click on Browse
  • The following screen will then be displayed.


  • Click on My Computer
  • Select C: drive, then the folder Micro Medical Ltd
  • Now select USB Driver, then click on MMSUB as displayed above
  • Now click on Open
  • The following screen will then be displayed.


  • Please make sure that you have the same location as shown in the display above.
  • Then click on OK
  • The following screen will then be displayed


  • Click on Next
  • The following warning screen will then be displayed


  • Click on Continue Anyway
  • The Micro Medical software Drivers will now install the necessary files to your system, as shown below.


  • Once complete, click on Finished and the drivers are now fully installed
