How do I clean the Transducer in my Spirometer?

Cleaning the Transducer

The transducer requires no routine maintenance or servicing. However, if you wish to sterilise or clean the transducer it may be removed by means of the following procedure:

  • Simply pull the transducer from the main body of the Micro Medical Spirometer.
  • MicroLoop/Lab: Remove the transducer by gently twisting the transducer so the locating pip aligns with the cut-out on the housing. Pull the transducer forward to remove it.

The transducer may now be immersed in warm soapy water for routine cleaning or immersed in cold sterilising solutions e.g. Perasafe, for a period not exceeding 10 minutes (Alcohol and chloride solutions should be avoided). After cleaning/sterilising, the transducer should be rinsed in distilled water and dried. Do not be tempted to poke objects into the transducer to help with cleaning (pen tops or cotton ear buds) as this will result in physical damage to the transducer.

  • A: An example of placing a Turbine into soapy water or solutions (persafe). Once done you should rinse in Distilled water as show in example A.
  • B: Rinsing the transducer
  • C: Leaving the transducer to be dried

Perasafe is available from Micro Medical in convenient 81g plastic bottles, Cat No. SSC5000

Re-assemble the transducer into the Micro Medical Spirometer once fully dried.
