COPD:
COPD or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (also referred to COLD - Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease or CORD - Chronic Obstructive Respiratory Disease) is the collective name for diseases of the lungs and respiratory systems that are Obstructive as opposed to restrictive like asthma. It is charcterized by the presence of airflow obstruction due to chronic bronchitis or emphysema. The obstruction to the airflow usually happens progressively and this is the reson why the patient needs to be monitored from early on. By far the major risk of getting COPD is cigarrette smoking.
