On Oct 19th 2003, John Williams and Mick Burke (pictured) will set off on the challenge of a lifetime, rowing 2900 miles across the Atlantic in a 24ft plywood boat. Their unique adventure will raise funds for CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood) and also encourage smokers who want to quit. Micro Medical are delighted to sponsor the team who will be among 30 other boats that will set off from La Gomera, Canary Islands rowing west to finish in Barbados about 60 days later.
The first race took place in 1997, grabbing the imagination of many from around the world and was won by a team from New Zealand in a record-breaking 41 days. The hope of this voyage and exhibitions of the boat will encourage and inspire other smokers who want to stop. A dedicated web site by the crew has been set up, so if you would like to hear more about this intrepid adventure please
