Over the last year, Micro Medical and its distributor Sensor Medical Kft. based in Budapest have been engaged in discussion concerning the formation of initiatives aimed at helping to create a new health programme dealing with increased numbers of the population that are suffering from cardiovascular disease. Men in particular aged between 50 and 60 have been particularly affected; half of those dying in this group have died as a result of cardiovascular disease – a worrying statistic for the government in Hungary.
It was decided that if measurable and long lasting benefits were to be achieved, an extensive education and screening programme for the nation would be required, something acknowledged with great vigour by the national health department in Hungary. Sensor Medical Kft. had been exploring the possibility of large artery stiffness screening, a major risk factor when looking at these diseases. Micro Medical’s PulseTrace PCA 2 was then chosen and introduced at the main hospital for cardiovascular disease research and treatment in Budapest, and attracted the broad attention of national media, and a news headline spot on the largest national TV station - MTV.
It is expected that this new programme will be rolled out to other screening centres throughout Hungary to make available this clear indicator of risk for cardiovascular disease requiring further investigation, and appropriate selection of drugs and treatment methods.
Micro Medical is delighted with the cooperation from its distributor in Hungary and believes that this is a perfect example and model, demonstrating how people and programmes can attempt to improve the health of nations.
The road is a long one but if you never start down it you cannot expect to proceed to the end.
